Sustainable Solutions Awards

The 2009 Sustainable Solutions Award for Most Active Student Group went to:

Gators for a Sustainable Campus

Gators for a Sustainable Campus (GSC) is a grassroots, action-oriented organization created to help UF students contribute to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. GSC utilizes a number of different avenues in order to contribute to and execute sustainability initiatives at the University of Florida. GSC encourages members to seek out new projects related to sustainability and provides them with resources to help them see their vision through. Members from GSC come out every football season to show their support for the Gator Green Team, making up the largest percentage of volunteer hours. GSC members take up task forces and campaigns, such as consumption reduction, water conservation, Earth Day planning, sustainability education, and bar recycling. Some of these projects are pursued in conjunction with other sustainability oriented organizations and most often the Office of Sustainability. GSC encourages members to pursue specific campaigns and has helped in the creation of off-shoot organizations such as enVeg and Campus Climate Solutions. Events and campaigns are planned with GSC members in mind, with many ways to participate or get involved, such as movie showings, creek clean-ups, working in their organic garden plots, vegan potlucks, tabling opportunities, and much more.

Congratulations to GSC for their excellent work!
